A Professional Triple Threat

In baseball, a triple threat is a player who can hit, run and throw — someone highly proficient in all three of the major aspects of the game.  In life and work, a professional triple threat is an individual possessing knowledge, skills and desire — who is adept in three critical areas that set the stage for unprecedented personal and leadership success.

A Professional Triple Threat

Becoming a professional triple threat is your best bet in becoming the person others can’t ignore when they are seeking someone to solve their problems, answer their questions or possibly afford opportunity to.

Knowledge and Understanding

Of the three elements necessary to become a professional triple threat, knowledge is probably the easiest to secure.  You can acquire it through formal education, training, experience, coaching or mentoring.  But please be careful.  Don’t fall victim to the myth that just because you have a degree, certification, or experience you’ve somehow gained adequate knowledge to be successful.  It’s just not that easy.

Skills and Application

The second element necessary for a professional triple threat development is skill, which differs from knowledge.  I’m sure you know people who have high degrees of knowledge, yet can’t seem to do anything practical with that knowledge.  Conversely, great numbers of people can do phenomenal things but often don’t understand the big picture.  Unfortunately, employees in many organizations are rewarded for their skills but aren’t adequately informed as to why or how those skills are important to the organizations overall objectives.

Personal Desire and Commitment

The third element of becoming a professional triple threat is personal desire and commitment.  This, frankly, is the most important of the three.  We all know individuals who possess knowledge and skills in significant measure, yet remain unsuccessful compared to their potential.  How can it be that someone with such promise and years of opportunity falls so short?  Plain and simple, these individuals lack the personal desire and commitment to forge ahead while employing their knowledge and skills toward the opportunities available to them.  Please understand that I am not saying these are bad people.  The truth is, whether they recognize it or not, they’ve been blocking their own success path due to their lack of personal desire and commitment to be successful.

Professional Triple Threat for Life and Work

In life and work, a professional triple threat is an individual possessing knowledge, skills and desire.  Becoming adept in these three critical areas will set the stage for unprecedented personal and leadership success.  That individual can be you!
